Description:
Hidden away on the shores of Peninsula Lake, close to Algonquin Park and only a short drive from Huntsville, this charming and classic gem of a cottage is a place to enjoy, recharge, revitalize and bask in the beauty of Muskoka.
Idlehour Cottage is a peaceful spot with a wonderful lake view and 460 feet of waterfront. The south-facing deck provides morning sun, while a second deck faces the lake and offers shade in the heat of the day. A large screened porch has ample space to gather and chat, read, play board games or eat a casual meal as you watch the afternoon sun shimmering across the water.
Idlehour has four spacious bedrooms; three on the upper level and one on the lower level. There are queen beds in three of the four bedrooms and the fourth bedroom has two singles. There is a four-piece bathroom on the main level.
Finished throughout in traditional knotty pine, the cottage offers yet more relaxed gathering space in the comfortable living room. An inviting pine harvest table surrounded by expansive windows overlooks the lake and is conveniently located beside the well-equipped kitchen where sliding doors provide access to the back deck and BBQ.
On the lower level there's another great get away spot equipped with a TV, BluRay player, CD player and dartboard where guests can enjoy an evening darts tournament. There is a newly renovated three-piece bathroom on the lower level.
The land is gently sloped to the shoreline with plenty of room for outdoor games and exploring among the natural, lightly forested edges of the property. Descend the footpath along wide stone steps to the lake, where shallow, sand and pebble access at the shoreline goes side by side with a substantial seating platform and dock that extends 50 feet out into the lake. There is a community walking trail that runs through the cottage property along the shoreline.
A canoe is provided for water adventures, along with a fishing boat. A boat launch is available at the nearby Tally Ho Resort just across the lake. Peninsula Lake connects to a chain of lakes that provide 70 kilometres of boating on Fairy Lake (Huntsville Marina), Lake Vernon, and through a set of locks to the Muskoka River and Mary Lake. It's just a short drive from the Idlehour Cottage to the Lake of Bays boat launch available at the South Portage Access.
An easy breezy half hour drive will take you to Algonquin Park, with hiking trails, beaches for swimming, and a Nature Centre to explore. You can visit the nearby historical site of the old Portage Flyer Train that used to run overland to Lake of Bays. The difficult part of your holiday will be choosing from the many activities that will be available to you!
Downhill Skiing is only 20 min. from the cottage at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area. Arrowhead Provincial Park has approximately 33kms of groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails with trails for all levels of skill and interest. Arrowhead is well known for it's 1km looped outdoor skate trail. Book early. Skate rentals are available at the park. Ski and snowshoe rentals are available at Algonquin Outfitters in Huntsville.
Huntsville is also a great place to enjoy snowmobiling. Muskoka is part of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) District 7, offering groomed trails that lead to thousands of kilometers of trails connecting northern and southern Ontario. Muskoka Trail Map
