West Otter Lake Cottage F013
West Otter Lake, near Dorset, Ontario.
This cozy two-bedroom cottage lets you experience the real Ontario.
It is located on Otter Lake, a quiet lake approximately three miles
long and a half mile wide. There is a winding path which takes you
down to this waterfront cottage. The L-shaped deck gives you a
peaceful view of the lake.
The interior of the cottage has just been renovated. There are two
bedrooms, one with a queen bed just off a conversation area with an
open archway. The other bedroom has a double bed. In the living
room, you will find a pull-out couch, which would also sleep two
people. If you are bringing children, there is a perfect little
hide-away for them to sleep in. The interior walls have been lined
with pine, to give it the cottage feeling. The bathroom has a
shower, a sink with running hot and cold water and a composting
toilet. Close to the cottage, you will find a newly
constructed outhouse, also made of cedar. The outhouse has
electricity, a lamp, and a
great view of the lake!
Also available for your use is a one-person kayak, which you can use
to paddle across the lake to the rocky island. This island is
perfect to just sit and relax, sunbathe, and also to have a picnic.
This is the favourite spot for the children.
At the waterfront there is a 10' x 16', three-year old, dock which
has sun all day long during the mid-summer weeks. There is room for you to bring your boat and
the boat launch is located at the end of the lake. The swimming in
the lake is great. It is a clear lake, with a shallow entry, and a
sandy bottom, but also a few large rocks which you need to be
careful around. If you like to fish, you will find bass and pike in
this lake.
The owners request that you bring your own flash light, since the
walk to the cottage in the dark could be very tricky. There is a
long winding path from an elevated road down to the cottage itself.
They also recommend that when you first go to the cottage, you come
in the day light since this cottage is located on a narrow and
winding road.
You can bring your own drinking water, but there is also a separate
tap for drinking water. The water is lake water, but it goes through
a second filter for the second tap.
Please note that this cottage is not suitable for older people due
to the incline required to walk to the cottage.
Visit famous Robinson’s General Store, the scenic lookout tower in Dorset,
and the beach in Dwight by car or boat. Explore world-renowned Algonquin Park,
and browse antique shops in nearby Baysville and Dorset, or enjoy shopping,
dining and live theatre in Bracebridge or Huntsville, a short
drive away. For the golfer, there is a course on Bigwin Island
(the largest island on the lake) as well as many other courses
in the area.
