Hidden away on the shore of Peninsula Lake, close to Algonquin Park and a short drive to Huntsville, this gem of a cottage will be your place to recharge as you enjoy the beauty of this Muskoka lake.
Idlehour Cottage is a peaceful spot with a wonderful view of the lake and 460 feet of waterfront. The south-facing deck will provide you with morning sun, while the second deck faces the lake and is a place to find shade when you need it. If you prefer, the large screened sun porch (Muskoka Room) has ample space to sit and chat, read a book, play board games, or eat a casual meal as you watch the sun sparkle on the water.
The lot is quite level and has plenty of room for games or for exploring among the trees. Follow the gently winding path to the lake, where you can access the water with its shallow entry, and sand and pebble bottom. The dock extends 50 feet out into the lake.
A canoe is provided at the cottage, along with an aluminum boat with oars. If you bring your own boat, a launch is available right on the property. For a larger launching area, Tally Ho Resort is just across the lake. Peninsula Lake connects to a chain of lakes that provide 70 kilometers of boating on Fairy Lake, Lake Vernon, and through a set of locks to Mary Lake. A short drive past Idlehour Cottage will take you to Lake of Bays, if you would like to launch your boat at the South Portage Access and explore what this lake has to offer.
Idlehour has four spacious bedrooms; three on the upper level and one on the lower level. Lovingly finished throughout in knotty pine, there is plenty of seating area in the living room. A large pine dining room table sits next to the large windows looking out to the lake. A fully-equipped kitchen runs off the dining room and has a door leading out to the front deck.
The lower level of the cottage (with walk-out to the front yard) has a second space for relaxing, equipped with a dartboard and CD player - a great spot for the teenagers.
For the more adventurous sort, a hike along the lakeshore path will lead you along the shore of Peninsula Lake, past many interesting cottages. If you prefer, you can explore the nearby historical site of the old Portage Flyer Train that used to run overland to Lake of Bays. A half hour drive will take you to Algonquin Park, where you will find hiking trails, beaches for swimming, or a Nature Centre to explore. The difficult part of your holiday will be choosing from the many activities that will be available to you!
