Tatami Woods, a three-bedroom, three-bathroom cottage on Ahmic Lake, will appeal to naturalists, nature enthusiasts, active people, and those who enjoy hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, and skiing.
Tucked away in the woods is a private sanctuary of stately architecture, a true nature retreat. Designed by two architects, the structure is modern contemporary, with straight lines, high ceilings, and a cool, airy feel. With its slate floors and block walls, it will stand cool among the trees in the summer. In the winter, the in-floor heated slate tiles will keep the cottage warm while the snow gently falls outside.
The spacious living room seats eight and has lots of windows allowing the sun to shine in. The dining room features dining for eight. The state-of-the-art kitchen features all the modern conveniences, making for easy meal preparation and clean up. Water is drawn from a well.
Off the kitchen is a very comfortable Muskoka room with screens on three sides allowing the breeze to flow through on hot summer nights. On cooler evenings a woodstove helps to take the chill off. This will soon become the favourite spot to gather at the end of a fun-packed day. An added plus is the sauna room next door, with a two-piece bath next to it.
There are three bedrooms. The first is very private, up on the second floor, featuring a queen-size bed, hardwood floors and an adjoining ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom is on the main floor, looking out into the woods, and features a queen bed. The third is a Tatami room, a Japanese raised floor made of woven grass in the Japanese style, where two thin single mats are used as beds.
Off the living room is a medium-sized deck, graced by an outdoor dining set for six. The barbeque is charcoal lit by propane, and the charcoal is supplied. There is a fire pit near the driveway.
Tatami Woods is very private, situated on a seven-acre lot, with 600 feet of lake frontage. The neighbour on one side is not visible from the cottage. Getting down to the water is challenging, with an extreme slope and lots of trees, and for that reason, this place is not recommended for the elderly or children.
At the water, there is a small dock, with water depth at the end of 7-8 feet and the bottom is stony. The waterfront is ranged with trees, and deer trails run the entire length of the shoreline. Wildlife spottings are a regular occurrence. Fishing is good with lake trout, bass and pickerel. For those wishing to go fishing or exploring the lake, a canoe and kayak are provided. For those bringing a boat, Ahmic Lake is a large, popular lake with a public dock at the Ahmic Harbour.
