Location: Muskoka River, Bracebridge, Ontario
Nestled on 3.8 acres of pristine Muskoka wilderness, along the banks of the Muskoka River, this charming log cabin is located only 20 minutes from Bracebridge. This traditional year-round log cottage offers an escape in a traditional setting with modern amenities like high-speed internet. In the 1980s, three different century-old log homes from across Ontario were brought to this site to be blended into this cabin. This property offers a large grassy yard, perfect for playing lawn games. The two-tiered 15-foot-long deck is a great space for relaxing, enjoying conversation or dining, and offers great river views and plenty of sun. Chairs and a table are available for dining outdoors, and a lounge area includes a patio couch, love seat, coffee table and two chairs. The deck wraps around to the kitchen, where the charcoal barbeque is located. There is an entrance off this portion of the deck that allows access to the kitchen.
In front of the cottage, the slow-moving river is good for swimming. A small ledge at the river’s edge, where swimmers can stand, is approximately three feet deep and five feet wide. This section of the river is about 10-15 feet deep and there’s usually very little boat traffic of any kind, particularly motorized! Non-motorized watercraft – kayaks and a canoe – are supplied for paddling up or down the lazy river to small waterfalls. On the lawn between the river and the cottage, a large firepit can be an ideal spot to end the day, perhaps settling into Muskoka chairs around a bonfire while watching stars freckle the night sky.
This bungalow-style cottage offers two bedrooms. The first is the spacious master bedroom, which includes a queen bed and a window air conditioner. As well, a desk and chair provide a workspace for anyone who needs it. The second cozy bedroom contains a double bed. The Muskoka room has a pull-out sofa that converts to a double bed, creating an additional sleeping option. The cottage is equipped with a full bathroom that has a tub/shower combination.
A three-season bunkie is available June to mid-September and offers additional sleeping for four with two double futons, as well as a mini fridge, a small desk and chair. This classic stack-log structure is a perfect retreat for extended families with teens, or for extra guests. The bunkie’s deck has storage bins that house the lawn games and life jackets.
The main cottage’s Muskoka room also includes a games table, four comfortable tub chairs and two sofas. This bright, airy space has many windows that allow plenty of natural light and good views of the lawn, deck and river. French doors lead from the Muskoka room to the large deck.
The kitchen/dining room is one big area that includes necessities such as a fridge, electric stove/oven, drip coffee maker, stove-top espresso maker and a French press. There is also a microwave, kettle and the essential tools for preparing meals. A prep table in the kitchen has three bar stools, allowing for the cook to have company while preparing a meal. A dining table, which seats up to six, is also located in this area, as well as extra chairs.
The great room, off the kitchen, is an inviting quiet area with a high ceiling. It includes a love seat and a three-seat sofa, making it a perfect spot for reading and conversation. The windows of this room overlook the Muskoka room. This room has a 50-inch smart TV, and the entire cottage offers high-speed internet service.
Nearby Bracebridge, one of Muskoka’s larger towns, offers a variety of restaurants, boutique shops and attractions, including public beaches and walking trails. Santa’s Village, on the outskirts of Bracebridge, is a short drive from the cottage, making it a great location for young families. Muskoka Zip Lines and Aerial Park is also a popular attraction, as is Kirby’s Beach Park. Both Bracebridge and Huntsville, which is about half an hour’s drive away, have a nice selection of restaurants, some nightlife options and, in the summer, festivals, farmers' markets and other outdoor events.
Whether you are seeking adventure on nearby lakes, snowmobile trails or peaceful time in nature, this cabin is your perfect home base for exploring Muskoka.
