Set like a gem on the crest of a hill overlooking the Muskoka River, this well-appointed cottage has been specifically designed with comfort in mind. This newly built bungalow is surrounded by a lush forest that’s populated with a mixture of towering conifers and deciduous trees, adding privacy and enhancing the year-round appeal. A wall of windows in the great room allows guests to enjoy the woodland view in any season, from every part of this welcoming open-concept space.
This living/dining/kitchen area is truly the heart of this modern cottage, which features carefully curated furnishings and amenities. Every facet of contemporary comfort is present here. Attention to detail is truly the hallmark of this property, from the wine fridge to the Churchill dining table, from the custom-made oversized sofa to the chic gas fireplace, or from the fully screened Muskoka room to the wrap-around deck.
After stepping out onto the deck, from either the great room or the Muskoka room, a short flight of solid wooden stairs leads to manicured grounds and a path through the woods. This trail slopes toward the river and intersects with an additional deck and a longer staircase to the water, where the shoreline has been kept in a natural state. Beside the deck in the woods, brightly painted Muskoka chairs encircle a fire pit that overlooks the river. At the water, a floating dock with a ladder provides access for swimming. From the dock, it’s easy to launch the cottage’s canoe or kayaks and explore this peaceful section of the Muskoka River.
If one prefers to relax indoors, however, the cottage’s great room is the perfect place, since the floor-to-ceiling windows create a wonderfully bright and cheerful atmosphere here. The choice of fashionable natural wood finishes and soft fabrics further promotes the sense of bringing the beauty of nature indoors. The large, plush L-shaped sofa is ideal for snuggling into while watching the 75-inch TV, which is mounted above a modern gas fireplace.
Adjacent to the sofa, the elegant Churchill dining table seats eight, but seating in the great room is by no means limited to a table and sofa! There are several small tables and chairs for reading, working on a laptop or simply enjoying a morning coffee. As well, an island with a sleek black counter has barstools for four, and it’s very close to the wine fridge, which has dual temperature settings for both wine and beer. If sitting at the island, however, one may be called upon to serve as sous chef!
This kitchen is truly a chef’s delight. It has been fully equipped with culinary contentment in mind. The beverage bar has a coffee grinder and two types of coffee makers, along with the requisite toaster and tea kettle. The expansive counters, along three walls, are punctuated with a double-doored stainless steel fridge, flat-top range, large oven and microwave. The kitchen also features a wide array of small appliances, including an air fryer and a rice steamer, and it’s supplied with premium cookware and knives. There’s plenty of space for preparing or storing food and, at the sink in the island, filtered water is available for drinking, so bottled water is unnecessary.
Additionally, the cottage is equipped with ambient in-floor heating, a state-of-the-art system that provides either warmth or cooling, as needed, and a generator, should the electricity fail. Ceiling fans in the common area and the bedrooms help keep the air moving, so guests are comfortable wherever they are or whatever they’re doing indoors. There’s also a portable heater in the Muskoka room, for added comfort on cool evenings.
There are four bedrooms in total, all located at the same end of the cottage, in close proximity to the main bathroom. Two of the bedrooms feature king-sized beds and another has a queen. The fourth bedroom has been furnished for children; it has twin bunks, a dresser and a television, so the younger members of the family can watch something in their own room while the adults are enjoying entertainment in the nearby great room. The bedrooms are all tastefully decorated but have minimal storage space for clothing, and only the rooms with king bed have closets.
The cottage has two bathrooms, which is helpful when the whole family is visiting! The main bathroom, in the bedroom section, features double sinks and a full bathtub/shower with sliding glass doors. The secondary powder room is located at the other end of the home, near a stylish mudroom that has a set of live-edge benches, as well as a washer and dryer.
Style and comfort are foremost throughout this bespoke cottage. From the mudroom to the great room, where guests will appreciate details such as the Bose Bluetooth sound system and the computer monitor that has been installed for the convenience of those who prefer to work on a larger screen than a laptop has to offer. The Wifi system provides fast service and a strong signal for streaming movies on either of the cottage’s televisions. When guests are ready to unplug, though, the charming Muskoka room and the spacious decks are just the ticket! These spaces, like the great room, have comfortable, tasteful furniture, making them ideal for restful relaxation or socializing.
If guests want to extend their entertainment options beyond the cottage, several nearby towns offer opportunities for fun activities for all ages. Kids will enjoy Santa’s Village and the High Falls Water Park in Bracebridge. Adults may prefer to visit the North Granite Ridge Golf Course, which is only 10 minutes from the cottage. There’s often live music available in either Bracebridge or Huntsville, and everyone will enjoy the beach at Port Sydney!
