Location: Butterfly Lake, Near Port Carling, Ontario

Nestled on the shores of beautiful spring-fed Butterfly Lake, Cocoon Cottage is the perfect blend of the rustic and the luxurious. Located mid-way between the popular summer resort communities of Bala and Port Carling and just minutes from the big three Muskoka lakes (Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph), guests will instantly fall in love with the this charming four-season cottage. From its huge wrap-around deck overlooking 425 ft. of picture-perfect private waterfront, to its lovely treed setting, to its immaculately decorated interior, Cocoon Cottage is ideal for those seeking a touch of affordable class in Canada’s most sought after summer playground. Just two hours north of Toronto, this cottage’s handy location is a real bonus as it is right on Highway 169, though there is sometimes some noise from traffic going north.

From the moment guests step into Cocoon Cottage’s tastefully decorated interior they’ll know they’ve arrived in Muskoka. In addition to the lovely pine flooring featured throughout both levels of this 1500 sq ft property, the pine clad ceiling is attractively accentuated by huge wood beams that provide a truly authentic cottage appeal. Another plus is the gorgeous lake view through the extensive ceiling-to-floor windows, which also serve to allow in a great deal of light throughout the day.

Cocoon Cottage’s kitchen is a delight to use, whether entertaining guests for dinner, cooking up one of those wonderful cottage brunches, or simply whipping up a capacino or espresso coffee. Highlights of this bright modern cooking space include its new state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances (chefs will love the gas stove), pine cabinets, as well as plenty of counter space for meal preparation and serving.

Adjacent the kitchen and running the length of the spacious living room is the dining area. With a dining table fit for ten, guests will eagerly claim their spot on the long table looking onto Butterfly Lake – it simply doesn’t get much more Muskoka than that. The centerpiece of the living room itself is the huge stone fireplace with its solid pine mantel. Around it, guests can sit and chat while reflecting upon the highlights of their stay and swapping stories.

When it comes to sleeping, Cocoon Cottage boasts three bedrooms accommodating a total of eight guests. The master bedroom is on the main floor, and comes with a queen bed and amazing views out over the lake (an added feature is a French door that allows direct access to the pleasantly treed lot and access down to the lake). Also on the main floor, a wonderful three piece bathroom boasts a lovely old-fashioned bathtub (complete with clawfoot supports!), perfect for a quiet end-of-day soak.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms to choose from, one with a queen bed while the second includes two sets of bunk beds (for a total of four singles). A second three-piece bathroom is also located on the upper level (this one features a shower).

As lovely as it is inside, Cocoon Cottage also features a magical cottage experience outdoors, too. A definite highlight is the huge wraparound porch overlooking the lake. In addition to its BBQ, the porch also provides a number of classic Muskoka chairs, including one smaller one designed for a child. Another group of Muskoka chairs circles the magnificent lakeside fire pit… the perfect place to toast those S ‘mores! The cottage is located on highway 169, so it is a quick trip into the towns of Gravenhurst, Bala and Port Carling.

While strong swimmers will love cannonballing off the Cocoon Cottage dock, those preferring to wade in slowly can find a number of spots to enter Butterfly Lake along the cottage’s extensive waterfront. Two full-size paddleboards are also provided, the perfect vessel not just for traversing the lake but also getting in some yoga practice! For those bringing their own motorized boat, a launch is located nearby. For those wanting to rent a boat, a number of marinas can be found in and around Lake Muskoka.

Other fun activities can be found in neighbouring Port Carling and Bala, including great shopping, dining, entertainment (the famous Kee to Bala) and attractions from historic steamships to museums. The area also boasts a number of first rate golf clubs and resorts. Also handy is the always bustling Glen Orchard General Store, just a five minute walk away.

  • $3,500 per week during high-season (High-Season includes Family Day Week, Victoria Day long weekend, March Break, the last full week of June to Labour Day Monday, Thanksgiving, as well as the week of Christmas and New Year's ).
  • $2,450 per week during off-season.
  • $583 per night during holiday weekends in off-season (3 night minimum).
  • $408 per night during Off Season (3 Night Min)
  • $1,000 refundable security deposit required.

    The Security Deposit is held as insurance for our owners that should malicious damages occur, they will not be financially responsible. Penalties will be charged to the guest for a number of reasons, not limited to: smoking inside a cottage where smoking is prohibited, exceeding the guest limit for the cottage, leaving garbage on the property, misuse of cottage property.
  • For stays 1 week or less: $59 Accidental Damage Insurance required.

    The Accidental Damage Insurance covers any unintentional damages declared by the guest before check out.
  • For stays longer than 1 week: $75 Accidental Damage Insurance required.
